Jun 2019 - Provisional League feedback finished and creation of the 2019-20 league season is underway
Following feedback from member institutions, and taking into account late entries and withdrawals, BUCS is now in a position to start building the 2019-20 season. With over 5500 teams involved the competitions team have started the lengthy process of constructing 30000 fixtures ready for release on 20 July on the new BUCS competition management platform.
May 2019 - 5500+ Teams Entered and Rugby 7s Championship and Trophy run on New Platform
Team entries have surpassed last year's total. And with all team entries made on the new BUCS Platform it is great demonstration of the platforms ability to cope with heightened demand. In May, we also ran live tests at both the Championship and Trophy Rugby 7s events. The events were very successful with a great deal of intrigue and interest in the close to live updating of results and routes to the final.
Apr 2019 - Team entries open on new BUCS platform
The time has come, BUCS has begun the process of rolling out the BUCS competition management platform for the BUCS 2019-20 season. Team entries will be taken on the new platform with all BUCS institutions given access to the system. Master users on BUCScore will be set up on the platform with the correct permissions. Team Entries will open on the 17th April with a refresher webinar based training session being held on the 22nd April.
Mar 2019 - The LUSL pilot finishes with a flourish at LUSLFest
The culmination of hundreds of knockout fixtures played on the new platform, LUSL's very own BUCS Big Wednesday, LUSLFest, took place in early March. It demonstrated the success of the team sheet function on the BUCS App with participants able note their availability, be selected for, play in the finals. In addition, captains were able to verify the opposing team sheet.
Feb 2019 - Update and training at BUCS National & Regional Meetings
In February regions and nations were given an update on the BMS project with a particular focus on the new BUCS competition management platform. Jan 2019 - Website and CRM project begins
BUCS has partnered with Pixl8 and Blue_light CRM to deliver its new website and CRM system ready for the 2019-20 season. Both companies have a wealth of experience in delivering complex solutions for membership organisations.
LUSL Fencing became BUCS' first fully digital end to end event in its history. Individual participants applied to enter different disciplines for the event, where they were accepted by Captains and Institution Administrators, registered on the day for event through the platform. Throughout the competition the bouts, scores, results and tournament progression captured live on the platform and through the app for all participants to see.
Nov 2018 - New Administrator Dashboard and new features released
A number of functional improvements have been made to the system after receiving the first round of feedback from the London Region. Enhancements such as the addition of multiple Institution Administrators and the new LUSL wide Dashboard have been rolled out onto the live platform.
Oct 2018 - New competition platform lands on web & mobile app
To mark the end of Phase One and Phase Two of the BUCS Project, the new BUCS Platform was launched online, with the new BUCS app available through the App Store and Google Play. The new solution is currently being piloted on LUSL for the 2018/19 season in preparation of the national release for the 2019/20 season across all BUCS Competitions and Leagues.
May 2018 - Phase One completed
Phase One of the project was completed to schedule.
The London Universities Sports Leagues (LUSL) Management Group and London Region approved the use of the new BUCS Competition Management Platform across the LUSL program for September 2018, covering 14 different sports to engage approximately 6000 students.
Apr 2018 - Project started
Across regional meetings, BUCS members were updated on the initial progress of the project.
A Stakeholder Engagement Day was held to gather further insight from a variety of stakeholders including staff from member institutions.
The project was subsequently split into three phases, each made up of multiple two-week sprints.
Regular project update meetings are ongoing to manage the project's progression.
Mar 2018 - Playwaze selected to develop new BUCS Competition Management Platform
The decision was made to harness and develop an existing sports management system. BUCS and London Youth Games (LYG) joined forces with London Sport and partnered with sports activity, club and Competition Management Platform Playwaze to launch a new web and mobile Competition Management Platform in September 2019.
Aug 2017 - Requirements of BUCS and London Youth Games gathered and analysed
BUCS and London Youth Games (LYG) gathered their top-level requirements, identifying the synergies and differences between their needs. Together BUCS and LYG evaluated and dismissed three options:
(1) Invest in current system (2) Build a new bespoke system or (3) Use an off-the-shelf sports management system
None of these options were considered attractive, so two further options were explored:
(1) Bespoke an existing established CRM system or (2) Harness and develop an existing sports management system.
Jul 2017 - BUCS and London Youth Games partnership established
BUCS formed a partnership with London Youth Games (LYG) based on the similarity between their system requirements. LYG is Europe's largest youth sports festival, with a season of events taking place over 9 months including both School and Community Competitions across 30 different sports, from football to volleyball. The competitions are part of the national School Games programme, which is funded by Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust.
